Nissan Motor Kyushu Co., a subsidiary of Nissan Motor Co., will cut production by around 1,200 units this month in response to the escalating tensions in the Middle East, The Yomiuri Shimbun has learned.

This measure is being taken because exports of vehicles such as the Patrol luxury sport utility vehicle (SUV) to the Middle East have stalled, leaving no spare capacity for storing the produced vehicles.

The production cut will affect models other than the Patrol. As demand for the Patrol in the Middle East is expected to continue, the company reportedly will not reduce production of this model at this time. The company plans to make up for the reduced output through increased production from April onward.

Among domestic car manufacturers, Toyota Motor Corp. has already begun reducing production of models destined for the Middle East.
