Garyu Cherry Blossoms Peak in Japan’s Gifu Prefecture, 10 Days Earlier Than Usual

The Garyu-zakura cherry tree is now in full bloom in Takayama, Gifu Prefecture.

TAKAYAMA, Gifu — The Garyu-zakura cherry tree, a national natural monument in Takayama, Gifu Prefecture, has reached its peak bloom and is attracting visitors.

The Garyu-zakura at Garyu Park is an Edohigan cherry tree estimated to be 1,100 years old. It is 20 meters tall and has a circumference of 7.3 meters and a branch spread of 30 meters.

According to the municipality’s Ichinomiya branch office, the blossoms came about 10 days earlier than usual, and the peak viewing period is expected to last until around this weekend.
