A community facility offering overnight camping facilities and aquatic activities will open on Saturday at Saiko lake in a municipal park in Toda, Saitama Prefecture.

The facility, dubbed Saiko Base, is expected to serve as a hub for raising awareness of the importance of water resources, since the lake is used as a source of drinking water for the surrounding area during periods of drought and can function as a reservoir in the event of a disaster.

The facility features lodgings in the form of six trailer homes, each about 15 square meters in size, as well as a cafe and a multipurpose room. Each trailer home is equipped with a bio-toilet, in which microorganisms break down waste, as well as a shower room that uses a water recycling system.

On the lake, visitors can enjoy activities like stand-up paddleboarding, water cycling, boating and more.
