FUKUSHIMA — Weeping cherry trees were in full bloom along a walking path of an abandoned railway line in Kitakata, Fukushima Prefecture, on Sunday.

About 1,000 weeping cherry trees line the about 3-kilometer walking path situated along the now defunct Japanese National Railways’ Nicchu Line, which was discontinued in 1984.

“It’s interesting to see cherry blossoms at eye level,” said a 53-year-old tourist from Osaki, Miyagi Prefecture. “They’re like cherry blossom curtains. They’re so beautiful.”

According to the city government, visitors will be able to view the cherry blossom trees for a few more days, depending on the weather.
