Cherry Blossoms Officially Appear in Japan’s Oita

OITA — Someiyoshino cherry blossoms have begun blooming in Oita City, on par with the average year and one day earlier than last year, the Oita Local Meteorological Office announced Tuesday.

A staff member of the office confirmed that five flowers had bloomed on the sample tree in the office’s grounds in the city as of about 2 p.m.

Oita City, the capital of Oita Prefecture, sits on Beppu Bay on the eastern coast of Kyushu.
