KYOTO — An 11-year-old boy has been missing for about a week in Nantan, Kyoto Prefecture. The Kyoto prefectural police have released information about the boy and are continuing their search.
On Sunday, his school bag was found in the mountains about 3 kilometers northwest of his elementary school and the police are focusing their search on the surrounding area.
The boy, Yuki Adachi, entered sixth grade at Nantan municipal Sonobe elementary school in April. According to the police and the school, he went missing after his father drove him from their home to a spot near the school at around 8 a.m. on March 23.
The school contacted his mother at around 11:45 a.m. to inform her that he had not arrived, and they realized he was missing.
On March 25, the police released Adachi’s photo and information such as his clothing on the day when he went missing. On Sunday morning, a relative discovered his school bag in the mountains in the Sonobecho district of the city.
A security camera at the school — located about 200 meters from where Adachi got out of his father’s car — did not capture any images that could be identified as the boy, according to the school. No sightings have been reported by other students or parents who arrived at school at around the same time.
