Tourists admire the weeping cherry blossoms in full bloom in Suzaka, Nagano Prefecture, on Wednesday.

The weeping cherry trees at Chomyoji Temple in Suzaka, Nagano Prefecture, are currently in full bloom, delighting visitors.

The best viewing period is expected to be over the weekend.

The temple belongs to the Shinshu Otani-ha branch of Shin Buddhism. It is said that the weeping cherry trees were planted when the main hall was relocated from what was then Inoue village, which is now part of Suzaka City.

The largest of the four trees stands at around 7.5 meters and is estimated to be about 450 years old. The trees have also been designated municipal natural monuments.

A 76-year-old temporary worker from Matsudo in Chiba Prefecture visited for the first time with his friend. “The blossoms are beautiful. I was surprised by how thick the trunks are,” he said with a smile.
