OSAKA — The Japan Mint began its annual spring cherry blossom viewing event in Osaka on Thursday.

A total of 331 cherry trees of 140 varieties line both sides of a promenade that stretches about 560 meters from the facility’s south gate to its north gate.

Among the trees are rare varieties such as Otemari, whose blossoms have a spherical shape resembling a traditional Japanese ball.

Visitors enjoyed strolling along the rows of cherry trees in full bloom, with some taking photos.

“There’s a wide range of varieties to see, and the Japan Mint buildings and nearby river are also beautiful,” said a 68-year-old visitor from Noda, Chiba Prefecture. “There’s no place quite like this.”

The promenade will be open to the public through Wednesday from 10 a.m. on weekdays and from 9 a.m. on the weekend until 7:15 p.m. Admission is free.

Advance registration is required and available on a first-come, first-served basis via a dedicated website: https://www.mint.go.jp/eng/topics-eng/2026-cherry-blossom-viewing-in-osaka.html
