KYOTO — Someiyoshino cherry blossoms were in full bloom at the Sewaritei dike in Yawata, Kyoto Prefecture, on Wednesday.

Despite the rainy weather, people went to view the about 220 cherry blossom trees at the dike, which is located between the Uji and Kizu rivers and is one of the most popular cherry blossom viewing spots in the country.

Some people also viewed the about 1.4-kilometer stretch of trees from a nearby observation tower.

Food and drink stalls are set up at the dike for the Kyoto Yawata Sewaritei Cherry Blossom Festival, which is set to end Sunday. The executive committee of the event urged visitors to use public transportation to come to the event.

According to the Osaka Regional Headquarters of the Japan Meteorological Agency, it is high likely to rain in the area on the weekend.
